PRAGMA (Pacific Rim Application and Grid Middleware Assembly) is a community of practitioners composed of individuals and institutions, primarily from the education and higher education sectors across the Pacific region. This community actively collaborates with small and medium-scale groups to tackle various challenges using information technology.
PRAGMA’s activities engage participants in scientific expeditions, technology development, student engagement, and outreach to new communities. One of its primary objectives is to promote international scientific expeditions by forming teams of scientists and researchers in specific fields who work alongside cyberinfrastructure researchers to collaboratively address problems. During the 40th Pacific Rim Application and Grid Middleware Assembly, two students from the Faculty of Information Technology at Yarsi University received awards in different categories: Muhammad Farhan Al Anzhari won first place in the PRAGMA Student Poster Competition, while Neng Suhaeni secured first place in the PRAGMA Student Presentation, held from October 9 to 11, 2024, at Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Additionally, PRAGMA aims to enhance international cooperation through the sharing of cyber infrastructure. This initiative focuses on fostering new ideas by developing young researchers, providing cross-border scientific experiences, and expanding engagement with strategic partners. These activities align with SDG 4: Quality Education, which seeks to develop the capacity of young researchers and engage students in scientific activities, thereby supporting quality education and lifelong learning. Furthermore, the initiatives support SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, as PRAGMA contributes to strengthening innovation and building sustainable infrastructure through technology development and cyberinfrastructure sharing. Lastly, PRAGMA aligns with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as it involves collaboration among institutions and countries, underscoring the importance of global partnerships in achieving shared objectives, particularly in the fields of science and technology.
