YARSI Faculty of Psychology International Short Course Presents Resource Persons from 4 Countries

The Faculty of Psychology at Universitas YARSI held an International Short Course titled “Byte-sized Resilience: Mental Wellness for Society 5.0 and Beyond SDGs.” This course aimed to enhance health psychology understanding and promote YARSI’s mission in addressing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relating to health, well-being, equality, and environment. Divided into four sub-courses, each session lasted four days and was conducted via Zoom. The sub-courses were Mental Health First Aid, Digital Gender Divide, Community Resilience for Better Mental Health, and Mental Health, Climate Change, and Food Security.

Each sub-course featured a distinguished speaker from different countries. In Mental Health First Aid, Ratih Arruum Listiyandini, Ph.D., introduced concepts around mental health issues, global prevalence, risks, and symptom recognition. She also provided participants with techniques for becoming mental health first responders. The Digital Gender Divide course, led by Christina M. Antonites, Ph.D., addressed digital security and gender inequality in digital spaces, discussing resilient digital citizenship. Dr. Amalia binti Madihie conducted Community Resilience for Better Mental Health, highlighting the importance of positive relationships for building resilience and introducing resilience therapy. Finally, Mental Health, Climate Change, and Food Security, delivered by John Paul Cauchi, Ph.D., explored the impacts of climate change on ecosystems and human health, encouraging discussions on planetary health.

The event attracted participants from diverse backgrounds, bolstering YARSI’s international profile in psychology and supporting its ongoing international accreditation process. The short course also marked the beginning of a series of events leading up to the National Health Psychology Conference at YARSI, scheduled for September. Future programs include workshops in educational, clinical, and industrial-organizational psychology.
