Welfare in Islam: Realizing Social Justice through Philanthropy

On Saturday, March 22, 2025, the Mudzakarah Podcast presents an episode entitled “Welfare in Islam – Solutive Philanthropic Social Justice for Equitable People.” This discussion discusses the concept of welfare in Islam and the role of philanthropy in creating social justice and a more equitable distribution of wealth in society.

The podcast highlights how Islam emphasizes not only individual welfare but also collective welfare through various philanthropic instruments such as zakat, infaq, shadaqah, and waqf. The speakers emphasize that philanthropy plays an important role in reducing social inequality and creating economic balance in society.

Prof. Dr. Fasli Jalal, Ph.D., as Rector of YARSI University, was one of the speakers in this podcast. He provided an in-depth insight into how philanthropy in Islam can be a concrete solution in realizing equitable social welfare.

In addition, the role of the state in supporting community welfare was also discussed in this discussion. Appropriate regulations and policies, provision of employment, and social security are important factors in ensuring that no citizen is left behind in economic and social aspects.

This discussion is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically:

  1. SDG 1: No Poverty – Islamic philanthropy plays a role in helping the poor and reducing poverty.
  2. SDG 2: No Hunger – The distribution of zakat and waqf can support the availability of food for the underprivileged.
  3. SDG 4: Quality Education – Waqf and infaq can be used to support more inclusive and quality education.
  4. SDG 10: Reduced Inequality – Philanthropy helps create a more equitable distribution of wealth.

The Mudzakarah podcast hopes that this discussion can raise public awareness about the importance of philanthropy in Islam as a concrete solution in realizing social welfare and justice. With synergy between individuals, philanthropic institutions, and the state, equitable welfare can be achieved in accordance with Islamic principles and sustainable development goals.
