On 01/10/2024, Universitas YARSI proudly welcomed its first Palestinian student, Samaa Alkafarna, through a full scholarship to study at the Faculty of Medicine. This significant step is part of the university’s commitment to promoting education as a vital tool for fostering peace and prosperity, particularly in conflict zones such as Palestine.
The full scholarship covers all expenses, including tuition fees, accommodation, and living costs, ensuring that Samaa can focus entirely on her medical studies. In addition to academic support, Samaa will also receive psychosocial guidance to help her navigate her educational journey. To facilitate her adjustment to Indonesian culture and language, she will also participate in an Indonesian language program tailored for international students.
Dr. Wening Sari, Vice Chancellor I of Universitas YARSI, expressed the importance of this initiative, noting that education is one of the most effective ways to build lasting peace and understanding. “This year, we are honored to have a student from Palestine join us,” Dr. Wening said. “By offering education, we can help break down geographical and political barriers and empower students to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the global medical field.”
The scholarship program aligns with Universitas YARSI’s goal of strengthening international relations and providing opportunities for students from areas facing hardship. By offering this opportunity, the university hopes to make a meaningful contribution to creating a more peaceful and connected world.
This initiative not only empowers the recipient but also enhances the global community by fostering the growth of educated individuals who will ultimately help address the challenges facing society. Universitas YARSI continues to play an active role in international solidarity through education.
