UII and UY Host International Conference Highlighting “Global Harmony” Theme

Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) and Universitas YARSI co-hosted the International Office Conference (IOC) 2024, themed “Global Harmony,” from November 28 to 30, 2024, at the Royal Ambarrukmo Hotel in Yogyakarta. The three-day event attracted over 80 participants from various institutions in Indonesia and abroad.

The IOC 2024, supported by the NUNI (Nusantara University Network) consortium, Passage to ASEAN, and several Indonesian universities including BINUS University, Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati, Universitas Islam Riau, and Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Surabaya, featured pre-conference workshops, parallel presentation sessions, a talk show, networking opportunities, and a cultural program highlighted by a Merapi Lava Tour.

As a co-host, Universitas YARSI actively participated by sending a delegation, presenting two articles on significant international topics. Additionally, the university contributed to the conference’s networking sessions, engaging domestic and global universities in discussions about potential collaborations.

UII Rector Prof. Fathul Wahid emphasized that “Global Harmony” was chosen as the theme because fostering harmonious global relationships is essential for achieving sustainable development worldwide.

“Universities play a significant role in fostering global harmony, serving as hubs for knowledge, innovation, and cultural exchange. Collaboration among universities is crucial for sustainable development and promoting peace and intercultural understanding,” said Prof. Fathul.

The pre-conference workshops on November 28 featured key speakers such as Dr.rer.nat Dian Sari Utami from UII, Prof. Andri Andriyana from Universiti Malaya, and Yong Kit Mun from Temasek Polytechnic Singapore. The workshops covered vital topics like managing international student welfare, developing sustainable partnerships, and impactful international mobility programs.

On November 29, the conference continued with a welcome speech by Prof. Setyabudi Indartono, Head of LLDIKTI Region V, followed by an official opening by UII Rector Prof. Fathul Wahid. The event’s highlights included a keynote speech by Dr Wiryono Raharjo, Director of Passage to ASEAN Consortium for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, and parallel presentation sessions with 47 participants from various institutions.

The talk show session, *”Unlocking Opportunities for International Projects and Grants: Strategy and Best Practices for Erasmus+ EU and DAAD,”* featured prominent speakers such as Destriani Nugroho, Program Manager for Education at the EU Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, Dr Guido Schieders, Director of DAAD Regional Office, Jakarta, Dr Sid Suntrayuth, Dean of ICO NIDA Thailand, and Dr Wiryono Raharjo, Vice-Rector for Partnerships and Entrepreneurship at UII. The session focused on accessing international funding through programs like DAAD and Erasmus+, offering insights into cooperation projects and research innovation.

The conference concluded with a networking session, which provided participants with opportunities to form connections across national and international institutions. The final day featured the Merapi Lava Tour, which offered cultural enrichment for the attendees in Yogyakarta. Prof. Fathul expressed hope that IOC 2024 would strengthen the internationalization of higher education in Indonesia by enhancing access to international funding,
sharing best practices, and fostering partnerships and networks between universities both domestically and internationally.

Through IOC 2024, UII and Universitas YARSI reinforced their commitment to promoting national and international synergies that support sustainable education and global harmony.
