Sustainable Harvest: Hydroponic Farming as a Path to Self-Sufficiency

In December 2023, YARSI University students from group 2 conducted a Community Service Program (KKN) in Tanjung Priok, focusing on hydroponic farming as a means to enhance local food security. The students organized training sessions on hydroponic cultivation, aimed at equipping community members with the skills to grow their own vegetables. This initiative was designed to enable individuals and communities in RW 05 to independently produce fresh vegetables, reducing their reliance on external food sources.

The training provided valuable information on setting up and maintaining hydroponic systems, thereby supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger. By fostering self-sufficiency in food production, the program contributes to local food security and encourages sustainable agricultural practices. Additionally, it aligns with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production by promoting efficient resource use through hydroponics.

The project was met with enthusiastic participation from the community, and the educational objectives were successfully achieved. Participants gained practical knowledge on hydroponic farming, which they can apply to grow their own produce. This not only enhances their food security but also empowers them with new skills in sustainable agriculture. Through this KKN initiative, YARSI University students demonstrated their commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment, reflecting the university’s dedication to fostering innovative solutions for local challenges.
