Stroke Prevention Through Islamic Lifestyle: Effective Approaches for a Healthier Future

On February 16, 2024, Universitas YARSI hosted a webinar titled “Gaya Hidup Muslim untuk Cegah Stroke,” featuring Dr. Suryo Bantolo, S.Psi., M.Sc., SpS., MARS as the keynote speaker. The webinar began with an explanation of stroke, a medical condition that occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted or reduced, leading to brain damage. Dr. Suryo highlighted the key signs of a stroke, including sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body, confusion, difficulty speaking, and loss of coordination or balance. He emphasized the importance of recognizing these signs early and seeking immediate medical attention to minimize damage.

The webinar also covered how to handle a stroke emergency, stressing the need for quick response and the importance of immediate medical intervention. Dr. Suryo discussed the various causes of stroke, including high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, and a sedentary lifestyle. He then introduced strategies for preventing stroke through a Muslim lifestyle, which includes maintaining a balanced diet, regular physical activity, avoiding harmful substances, and managing stress through prayer and spiritual practices. This webinar aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages. By emphasizing the prevention of stroke through healthy habits and lifestyle choices, the event directly contributes to the global effort to reduce premature mortality from non-communicable diseases and promote overall mental and physical well-being.
