Stories from India: FTI Dean YARSI was invited as a speaker at three campuses and an international conference

Dr. Ummi Azizah Rachmawati, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology (FTI) at Universitas YARSI, recently completed a semester-long Visiting Professor program at Dayananda Sagar Academy of Technology and Management (DSATM) in Bangalore, India. Known as the IT capital of India, Bangalore’s academic environment inspired Dr. Ummi, who emphasized that YARSI students must stay diligent, aim high, and embrace challenges to succeed. She noted that many Indian students aspire to study and work abroad before returning to support their country.

Dr. Ummi observed similarities between YARSI and DSATM, such as the importance of religious values and rigorous IT programs. While YARSI emphasizes Islamic principles, DSATM reflects Hindu traditions, integrating them into campus activities. Both institutions share a globally relevant IT curriculum, though at DSATM, English is the primary academic language.

Additionally, Dr. Ummi appreciated DSATM’s hospitality, noting that students benefit from on-campus housing with amenities included. While DSATM is well-equipped, YARSI’s TIUY has access to newer AI and visualization tools due to grants from the Directorate of Higher Education and international partners.

Beyond DSATM, Dr. Ummi was invited as a keynote speaker at prestigious conferences, including the IEEE Distinguished Lecturer Program, where she shared AI research from TIUY, such as healthcare applications in dental imaging and cancer detection.
