On December 8, 2023, Yarsi University held a webinar titled “Pencegahan dan Penanganan Kekerasan Seksual (PPKS) dalam Tinjauan Islam,” featuring keynote speaker H. Andri Gunawan, S.Pd.I, BA(Hons), M.Phil. During the webinar, H. Andri Gunawan discussed the importance of preventing sexual violence on campus from an Islamic viewpoint, emphasizing that Islam is a compassionate religion with guidelines for addressing sexual violence and promoting healthy social interactions. He referenced verses from the Qur’an and Hadith to underline the importance of adhering to Islamic teachings and enforcing divine laws as preventive measures. Additionally, he explained the consequences of violating these teachings and the importance of self-control and respecting boundaries.

This webinar aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5: Gender Equality, which focuses on eliminating violence against all women and girls globally. It also supports SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by addressing sexual violence and fostering a safe environment. The webinar highlighted the university’s role in preventing and addressing sexual violence, the importance of community support, and the need for a comprehensive approach to tackling such issues. By sharing personal anecdotes about experiences with sexual harassment, the webinar encouraged victims to speak out and seek help, emphasizing the necessity for collaboration among students and campus leadership to prioritize preventive actions over reactive measures.
