Leadership Through an Islamic Lens: YARSI’s Contribution to SDG 16

On February 2, 2024, YARSI University hosted a webinar titled “Kriteria Pemimpin dalam Perspektif Islam” (Leadership Criteria from an Islamic Perspective). The event explored leadership principles aligned with Islamic teachings and their relevance to sustainable development. Experts led discussions on key leadership attributes, including religious knowledge, justice, and moral integrity, emphasizing that Islamic leadership transcends mere position, encompassing significant moral and spiritual responsibilities.

The webinar’s content strongly supported several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). By focusing on ethical leadership, the event addressed targets 16.6 (effective institutions), 16.3 (rule of law), and 16.7 (inclusive decision-making). The emphasis on moral integrity also supported target 16.5 (reducing corruption). Additionally, the webinar’s approach indirectly contributed to SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 4 (Quality Education), specifically targeting 4.7 on education for sustainable development.

Participants were encouraged to implement these leadership criteria in their practices, aiming to foster a more just and harmonious society. This practical application of the webinar’s teachings further reinforces its alignment with the SDGs, particularly target 16.b on promoting non-discriminatory policies for sustainable development.
