From Knowledge to Action: Reducing Stunting in Kalibaru through Education and Nutrition

In December 2023, YARSI University students from group 12 implemented their Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) program in Kalibaru, focusing on combating stunting and promoting balanced nutrition. The program began with a pre-test to assess knowledge about stunting and its associated risks. Following the assessment, the students conducted educational sessions to provide crucial information on balanced nutrition and the dangers of stunting, targeting parents in RW 04 Kelurahan Kalibaru. Additionally, the program included the distribution of healthy food to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, parents of children affected by stunting, and the children themselves.

These activities align with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. The initiative aimed to improve the health and development of children in vulnerable communities by promoting better nutrition and raising awareness about stunting. By equipping parents with essential knowledge and providing nutritious food, the program supported efforts to reduce stunting rates and improve overall child health outcomes.

Through this KKN project, YARSI University students actively contributed to addressing stunting issues in Kalibaru, gaining valuable experience in community engagement and public health education. Their efforts reflect the university’s commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility, demonstrating how academic knowledge can be applied to make a meaningful impact in local communities.
