The International Dental Student Summer Camp (IDSSC) 2024, held from September 4 to 8 in Batu Sangkar, Tanah Datar, Padang, West Sumatra, marked its second edition. The main activities of IDSSC 2024 included community service through dental health check-ups, oral hygiene education, and group tooth brushing sessions at six elementary schools in Batu Sangkar, involving over 380 students. This initiative aimed to enhance children’s dental health and raise awareness about personal hygiene practices.
In the educational domain, IDSSC 2024 featured a mini seminar titled “Future Dentistry,” with speakers from Malaysia and Indonesia, and attended by nearly 250 participants. The seminar provided up-to-date insights into advancements and future innovations in dentistry. A notable achievement of IDSSC 2024 was the award of a GOLD medal to students from the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) of Universitas YARSI in the poster competition, reflecting the high quality of their research and presentations.
These activities contribute to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by improving dental health and well-being of children; SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the seminar which offered the latest information and training in dentistry; and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by supporting innovation and research in the field of dentistry, contributing to scientific and technological progress.
