Director General of Pharmacy Inaugurates ISMGU, Universitas YARSI, Cool and Great

The 1st International Symposium and Workshop on Medical Genetics (ISMGU) took place at Universitas YARSI from May 16-18, 2024, attracting prominent experts and researchers from around the world. The event focused on cutting-edge topics in medical genetics, genomics, and precision medicine, providing a platform for international collaboration in advancing genetic studies and their clinical applications. The symposium explored recent innovations in genomics, including NextGen Sequencing (NGS), which enables whole genome sequencing in under a week, revolutionizing genetic testing by making it faster, more accessible, and cost-effective.

The event was organized by Dr. Wening Sari, Vice Rector I of Universitas YARSI, and saw a significant turnout from both local and international researchers and professionals in the field. Sessions covered essential themes in medical genetics, such as the role of genomics in understanding and preventing genetic diseases, the integration of genomic data into clinical care, and the potential of precision medicine to improve treatment outcomes for various diseases, including cancer and metabolic disorders.

The symposium also provided valuable discussions on the future of medical genetics in Indonesia and its potential for transforming healthcare. The event emphasized the need for greater awareness of genetic disorders in Indonesia and the potential for early detection through genomics. Participants were also introduced to new initiatives, including the formation of the AfroAsia Medical Genetic Society (AAMGS), which will foster collaboration between Asian and African nations in medical genetics. The event highlighted Indonesia’s ongoing commitment to advancing medical science and healthcare through genomic research and innovation.
