Group 5 from the Faculty of Medicine at YARSI University conducted a Community Service Program (KKN) in the Lagoa Sub-district in 2023, focusing primarily on improving local public health and hygiene. Addressing ongoing issues related to hand hygiene and oral health, this program aimed to educate and change community behavior through a systematic and structured approach. The educational activities took place from October 30, 2023, to December 30, 2023, and included intensive training on proper hand hygiene practices and effective oral health care.
The program was designed to raise awareness among the residents of Lagoa about the importance of personal hygiene as a key component of disease prevention and overall health improvement. The hand hygiene education focused on correct handwashing techniques, which are crucial for effective sanitation practices. Additionally, the oral health education covered proper brushing techniques and the importance of regular dental check-ups. The goal of these initiatives was to encourage the Lagoa community to adopt healthy habits that would positively impact their well-being.
Overall, this KKN program contributes to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 on Good Health and Well-Being, by enhancing awareness of good health practices. Furthermore, the program supports SDG 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation, emphasizing that hand hygiene is a critical part of effective sanitation practices. By strengthening community capacity in health and hygiene, the program aligns with these global goals and aims to foster lasting improvements in public health.
