Building a Better World: YARSI University’s Introduction to the Sustainable Development Goals

Universitas YARSI successfully held a seminar with the topic “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” aimed at raising awareness among students about the global framework for achieving a better and more sustainable future. This activity is one of the Continuous Professional Development activities conducted by Yarsi University. This activity is an ongoing activity that starts from 17 May 2023 to 14 June 2023.

The seminar began with an introduction to what SDGs are and why they play a crucial role in shaping policies and actions worldwide. It provided a comprehensive explanation of the 17 SDGs, which cover a broad range of global challenges, including poverty, inequality, climate change, and environmental degradation. Each goal was discussed in detail, highlighting their importance for promoting peace, justice, and prosperity for all while ensuring the health of our planet.

The seminar also featured an interactive session where students engaged in discussions about why SDGs matter to them personally and how these goals will influence their lives, communities, and future career paths. Students were encouraged to reflect on specific goals, such as SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 13: Climate Action, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and were asked to explore how they can contribute to achieving these goals within their own context. Afterward, students had the opportunity to present their insights through a presentation, fostering a deeper understanding of the global impact of SDGs on both local and personal levels.

The purpose of the event was twofold: to introduce students to the SDGs and to help them grasp the significance of these goals for themselves, their communities, and the collective future of the world. By actively engaging students in this conversation, the seminar emphasized that sustainable development is not just a global responsibility but also a personal one. This aligns with SDG 4, which promotes inclusive and quality education, and SDG 17, which emphasizes the need for partnerships and cooperation in achieving the goals. Universitas YARSI’s initiative in holding this event serves as a critical step in preparing students to become informed and responsible global citizens
