The Power of Effective Emails: Strategies for Success
On September 13, 2023, YARSI University conducted a training session with the theme “How to Write Effective Emails,” as part of its Continuous Professional Development (CPD) program. This training focused on the crucial skill of email communication, covering topics such as “Introduction to Why We Use Emails and the Benefits of Email Communication,” “Different Types of Emails That Can Be Sent and Received,” “How to Start Writing an Email Depending on the Audience and Purpose,” and “Do’s and Don’ts When Emailing.” This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, by enhancing students’ communication skills and preparing them for effective professional interactions.
The session emphasized the importance of crafting emails that address the needs of both the audience and the purpose of the communication. Participants learned how to structure their emails effectively using a step-by-step guide and discussed key aspects of email etiquette, including professionalism and clarity. The training included a practical component where students were given an activity sheet with an incomplete email example. Using a provided word bank, students filled in the missing words to practice constructing well-organized and appropriate email content. This hands-on task reinforced SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, as effective email communication is essential for professional success and productivity.
By focusing on understanding the importance of tailored email communication, structuring emails effectively, and adhering to email etiquette, the training met its objectives of improving participants’ email writing skills. These competencies contribute to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by ensuring that all students, regardless of their background, can communicate professionally and effectively in diverse environments. The training equips students with vital skills for their academic and future professional endeavors, fostering greater inclusion and communication efficiency.
