Halal and haram buying and selling online

The “Halal Haram dalam Jual Beli Online” event is an important initiative aimed at understanding the principles of halal and haram in online transactions. Held on November 10, 2023, at Universitas Yarsi via Zoom Meeting, this event featured Afrizal Tw. Lc., M.A., Ph.D., who provided valuable insights into the complexities of Islamic financial ethics in the digital age. Mr. Afrizal highlighted the significance of adhering to halal practices in online transactions, referencing a hadith of Prophet Muhammad that prohibits consuming anything derived from what is haram. He discussed the risks associated with online transactions, such as fraud and undelivered goods, and the limited guidance from classical scholars on contemporary issues like e-commerce.

Mr. Afrizal also addressed the legality of dropshipping, selling items not yet owned, and the concept of interest in online transactions. He emphasized the importance of transparency, clear communication, and adherence to Islamic principles in online commerce. The event aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by promoting ethical practices and fair trade, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, by fostering accountability and transparency.
