From Tradition to Tech: Pioneering AI Solutions for Batik Industry Growth

A research team led by Prof. Dr. Endang Purwaningsih from Universitas YARSI, in collaboration with several universities, is undertaking a groundbreaking project aimed at revitalizing the Indonesian batik industry through the application of artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative seeks to enhance the branding, innovation, and market integration of batik products, providing small and medium enterprises (UMKM) with tools to improve their competitiveness in a global market. By developing AI models tailored to optimize branding strategies, innovate design processes, and integrate with e-commerce platforms, the project directly contributes to the economic empowerment of batik producers.

The research not only focuses on the technological aspects but also includes comprehensive training in web development and e-commerce, ensuring that batik artisans can fully utilize these advanced tools. This project, supported by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, also aims to protect the independence and legal rights of batik weavers, expanding their market reach and ensuring continuous promotion of batik as a cultural heritage.

Aligning with SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, this initiative promotes sustainable economic development by enhancing productivity and job creation within the batik industry. It also supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure by fostering innovation through AI and improving industrial processes, thereby contributing to the resilience and sustainability of the batik sector in Indonesia. This comprehensive approach not only preserves cultural heritage but also drives economic growth and industrial advancement.
